Marketing Manager

We’re looking for a passionate marketing manager who has strong analytical abilities and is able to lead a dedicated events team to inspire the global tech community.

The company

We’re a young events company, based in Brixton, South London. Established 4 years ago we already run a number of successful events in the UK and the US. We serve to curate and deliver tech conferences and web developer training around the world, with a focus on high quality content and a friendly atmosphere.

This is an exciting time to join the team as we embark on further expansions, with conferences planned in New York, Austin, and Berlin in 2017/18. Our approach to event set up, content curation and experience make us market pioneers and leaders. We’re not an events agency; we design and run our own conferences – everything from conception to researching the market, programming the content, inviting the speakers, building the website, selling the tickets and ensuring everything runs smoothly on the day!

The job

The marketing manager is responsible for owning, developing, and supervising the delivery of White October Events’ marketing strategy. We are looking for someone who has the confidence to critically assess our progress so far, and make practical and innovative recommendations for what we should try next.

So strategic thinking will be at the core of this role – your first job will be to understand the data, understand our consumers and the markets we are entering. You will work closely with the Sales Manager and the Event Manager to ensure that opportunities are maximised and events are delivered collaboratively with a focus on quality. You will lead market expansion and help to repeat the success achieved here in the UK.

Our ideal candidate

  • You're experienced – You have 5+ years of marketing management experience, ideally from an events background, with a proven track record of devising strategies and managing multiple campaigns simultaneously across digital channels (including PPC, organic and paid social, and email marketing).
  • You think strategically – You keep your eyes open for game-changing information, searching beyond the current boundaries of the business and building relationships with external networks to help you scan the horizon for new opportunities.
  • You take a highly analytical approach – You seek patterns across multiple sources of data and question prevailing assumptions to form hypotheses.
  • You're results focussed – We're looking for someone who drives towards return on investment and uses consumer insight to run profitable campaigns. You'll own the marketing budget, and will be responsible for tracking and managing how it is spent, keeping it in line with target.
  • You're a supportive leader – You proactively broaden the team's thinking, challenge assumptions to encourage individual and team performance. We're looking for someone to support the team in achieve challenging goals, as well as focussing on individual key strengths and guiding principles. Our ideal candidate is able to delegate and give honest and constructive feedback.
  • Your attention to detail is fantastic – With lots of conference campaigns running simultaneously, we need someone with superior organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks. Excellent written and spoken English is also a must.
  • You're a great communicator – We're looking for a confident thinker who can effectively outline a clear vision and lead the marketing team to success.
  • You share our values – Our team is committed to working hard, going the extra mile and treating people with kindness, and we're looking for someone who cares about the same things we do.
  • You're excited by tech – You have a passion and appreciation for the tech community and events, plus a desire to build new networks and learn new skills.
  • Maybe you have these special skills – Experience implementing marketing automation would be an advantage, for example using Salesforce or Pardot.

The deal

  • Salary from £35-40k depending on experience
  • Full-time
  • 25 days holiday, plus public and bank holidays
  • Flexible working (standard hours are 9 to 5, Monday to Friday)
